In a significant incident in Lower Bavaria, a regional train collided with a truck at an unguarded railway crossing near Pocking, resulting in multiple injuries. The accident, which occurred around 3:00 PM on Wednesday, involved a regional train carrying 15 passengers and a truck driven by a 40-year-old man. The impact caused the train to derail, leading to severe injuries for the truck driver and varying degrees of injuries for nine train passengers.

The aftermath of the collision saw a swift response from emergency services, with numerous rescue teams dispatched to the scene. The railway track and the intersecting road were immediately closed to facilitate rescue and investigation efforts. Preliminary estimates suggest the damage could amount to approximately two million euros, highlighting the severity of the incident.

Authorities have indicated that the recovery of the derailed train is scheduled for Friday, May 30, with the railway line between Pocking and Pfarrkirchen remaining closed until further notice. This closure has disrupted rail services, with trains from Passau terminating in Pocking and those from Mühldorf ending in Pfarrkirchen for the duration of the closure.

The Passau traffic police have taken over the investigation to determine the cause of the accident. A technical expert is expected to be consulted to shed light on the circumstances leading to the collision. The community of Kühnham, where the accident occurred, is now at the center of a thorough investigation to prevent future incidents of this nature.
