28-09-2025

A 27-year-old trapeze artist died during a performance at Circus Paul Busch in Bautzen, Saxony, on Saturday evening, plunging approximately five meters from her apparatus in front of approximately 100 spectators. The Spanish performer, identified only as Marina, was pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency response efforts, according to police statements.

The tragedy occurred around 5:45 PM during what was supposed to be a magical circus evening at the venue located on Bautzen's Schützenplatz. Many families with children were among the audience members who witnessed the fatal fall as the experienced artist performed her solo high-wire act. Emergency services were immediately alerted, but medical assistance arrived too late to save the performer.

Most spectators had already left the circus tent in shock by the time rescue personnel arrived at the scene. The performance was subsequently canceled, and crisis intervention teams were deployed to provide psychological support for both audience members and circus staff affected by the traumatic incident.

Police investigators have indicated no evidence of third-party fault in the incident, classifying it as an occupational accident. Authorities noted that circus performers typically handle setup and safety checks for their own equipment. Professional counseling remains available for witnesses through the Hoyerswerda regional coordination center.
